At the beginning stages of forming my thesis, I wanted to do something different. My advisor gave me the idea of putting together “jigsaw puzzles” in a multimodal form for my readers to view my information in a new way. I introduce this “Digital Quilt” of text, research, thoughts, art, memes, videos, images, and anecdotes to tell the real story of Black English. I want people who read this to think of it as a “new age newspaper.” Each newspaper is a category that relates to the chapters of my thesis paper; History, Education, Community, Power, and Identity (B-L-A-C-K). By the end of reading the quilt, I hope that people will be able to learn and use the visual and audio components to absorb the information in a new way.
